Abstrak

Perbedaan interpretasi terhadap kebijakan Konsili Vatikan II dianggap mempengaruhi semakin beragamnya tampilan dan manifestasi ekspresi sakral Gereja Katolik kontemporer. Penelitian ini memfokuskan pada ekspresi sakral Sanctuary, mengingat kesakralan Sanctuary sebagai ruang terpenting Gereja Katolik dapat merepresentasikan kesakralan Gereja keseluruhan. Sebagai salah satu gereja berkarakteristik arsitektur kontemporer, Gereja Katolik Santo Laurentius Bandung menerapkan beragam teknik pencahayaan buatan pada ruang ibadahnya. Penelitian kualitatif ini membahas bagaimana dan sejauh mana teknik pencahayaan buatan mampu mendukung ekspresi sakral Sanctuary Gereja Katolik kontemporer. Data terkumpul meliputi data kuantitatif mencakup gambar kerja, pengukuran tingkat iluminasi pada bidang kerja dan kecerahan material pembentuk ruang, serta data kualitatif mencakup hasil pencatatan pengamatan lapangan dan rekaman visual. Proses analisis mencakup analisis sakralitas arsitektur meliputi orientasi, hirarki, keseimbangan dan simbol serta analisis visual meliputi kejelasan visual, keseragaman visual, keseimbangan visual, kecerahan dan keintiman spasial. Teknik pencahayaan buatan teridentifikasi berperan signifikan pada pembentukan ekspresi sakral Sanctuary Gereja Katolik Santo Laurentius Bandung.
